No Spelling Bee in 2019

We won’t be holding a Billerica Spelling Bee event in 2019. We may bring the event back in the future, but there are no current plans.

We appreciate the support from the students, parents, families, teachers, and administrators over the last nine years. Thank you.

2018 Billerica Spelling Bee Schedule Announcement

The 9th Annual Billerica Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Billerica Rotary Club will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Marshall Middle School, 15 Floyd Street, Billerica, MA.

Students who have earned their place as finalists will represent their school in this daylong competition.

The schedule of rounds will be:

  • 9:00 AM – Third Grade
  • 10:15 AM – Fourth Grade
  • 11:30 AM – Fifth Grade
  • 1:00 PM – Middle School

Important Notes

Finalists should plan to arrive fifteen minutes prior to their round for check-in.

Due to the nature of the competition, the only start time we can guarantee is the first round. If the competition is still going, we will not conclude the round until we have a winner. We’ve been able to manage this well, over the years, but we ask for your understanding in advance and we’ll do our best to maintain the schedule.

Tickets

Tickets will grant an all-day admission and will be $7 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, and no charge for children under 5.

Students participating in the Spelling Bee do not need a ticket.

Proceeds from the event go to fund the Innovative Classroom Grants program of the Billerica Partners for Education.

The public is welcome to attend the event.

Study Words Now Available!

All registered students have now been confirmed for the Billerica Spelling Bee.

  • The first step in qualifying for the Billerica Spelling Bee is a written test that will be administered in school during the week of Thanksgiving. The exact date and time of the test will be decided by the school and communicated to the students.
  • Students who do not attend Billerica Public Schools will receive information about their test date and location.

Students can prepare for the written test by studying the word list for their grade.

The test will have forty words, thirty-four of which will come from the study list.

Six additional challenge words, not included in the study list, will be part of the test.

Thank you for participating in the Billerica Spelling Bee.
